Profile

A committed federal employee and proud resident of Cottage City for over 25 years, Commissioner Wheatley holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mass Communications from Norfolk State University. Raised in a military family, Commissioner Wheatley developed a strong sense of discipline, service, and community responsibility that continues to guide her work and civic involvement. As the current president of the Hamlet Park Homeowners Association, she is a passionate community advocate dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for residents.

During the pandemic, Commissioner Wheatley advocated for a food pantry, as well as food and gas cards for Cottage City residents. With the commission’s support, the initiative successfully provided free produce and meat to the community. She also partnered with several neighboring mayors to create a diaper hub that distributed hundreds of free diapers to local families. Following the pandemic, Commissioner Wheatley requested that the commission continue its food assistance efforts by participating in the Share Food Program.

Outside of work and civic duties, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, discovering new cuisines as a true foodie, gardening, and listening to reggae, old-school R&B, and jazz music. She also enjoys line dancing.
