2026 Cottage City Scholarship Announcement

📣 Announcement to the Cottage City Community:

The Town of Cottage City is pleased to announce a scholarship opportunity for eligible students who are continuing their education beyond high school.

ELIGIBILITY:
Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:

Must be a resident of the Town of Cottage City for at least one (1) year prior to applying.

Must have completed high school (or equivalent).

Must plan to continue their education at a junior college, college, graduate school, or technical/trade school.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:
All applicants must submit a completed application form along with the following documents:

Official transcript(s) of scholastic record(s)

One (1) letter of recommendation from a teacher, coach, employer, or community leader addressing the applicant’s character, academic potential, and civic interest

Proof of residency (e.g., utility bill or driver’s license)

Proof of high school completion (unless indicated on transcript)

An essay (300–500 words) responding to the prompt: “Why is municipal government important?”

SELECTION PROCESS:

The Commissioners will review all qualified applications.

Applications will be ranked and evaluated based on the quality of submitted materials.

Preference may be given to applicants demonstrating community service or civic engagement in Cottage City.

Scholarship awards will be distributed as follows:

1st Place: 75%

2nd Place: 15%

3rd Place: 10%

If only one applicant applies, any unawarded funds may be rolled over to the next fiscal year in the same or similar budget line item.

If fewer than three qualified applicants apply, the Commissioners may award funds to fewer recipients or roll over remaining funds.

Once ranked, the Commission shall approve the top three scholarship recipients by majority vote.

Scholarship funds will be paid directly to the recipient’s educational institution upon proof of acceptance and enrollment.

This scholarship program is administered in a nondiscriminatory manner, without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other protected characteristic under applicable law. All applications and supporting documents will be handled confidentially in accordance with applicable data privacy standards.
